ok google. open youtube. google is trying to offer decent smartphones for an affordable price in the developing countries through android one initiative. today we will see infinix hot 2 in cooperation between google and infinix. and it's the first android one device that google launched in egypt, morocco, uae and some other african countries honestly i haven'e heard of infinix myself before google announcing the hot 2 however, after some search i found out that infinix had a good presence already in egypt the company offered some mid range devices in egypt such as infinix hot note and infinix zero 2 many users in egypt purchased these devices and they found it decent.
today we will see together a review for the infinix hot 2 i used the device as daily driver for almost two weeks. in order to give a practical opinion on the device. we will see if the device worth buying for somone who is is looking for a device within the budget of 1000 egp and we will check the cons and the pros of the device together. infinix hot 2 comes with very decent specifications for a device in this price category. the device we have today is the 2gb of ram version. the device has an hd 5 inch display with the resolution of 1280x720 we will have a dedicated section for the display later in the video.
the processor is mt6580 quad core cpu from mediatek 2gb of ram the rear camera is 8 mega pixel and we will have a dedicated section in the video for it as well the front camera is 2 mega pixel the internal memory of the device is 16gb with micro sdcard slot. the battery is 2200mah the body of the device is made of plastic the power and the volume rocker buttons are on the side of the device. the device has single loud speaker located on the bottom.
the device comes with stock android 5.1.1 without any modifications from infinix the display the display size is 5 inch with hd resolution 1280x720 it's not the best display you could find on a smartphone but it has really good viewing angles. this means if you look at the display from any angle the colors will look the same this down side to this display is that the colors are somehow washed out. but for a device with this price tag the display is not bad at all. and you'll not see the pixels on the screen if you're view a photo or playing a video. also, the device comes with a lighting sensor.
it adjusts the display brightness according to the ambient lighting. the camera the camera app on infinix hot is google camera app because it's a google device. google camera app is very simple and has really few options to manually control the camera. the rear camera takes average shots but it does the job. however for a device with this price still not bad at all. it's an 8 mega pixel shooter and it's capable of shooting 1080p videos the shots from the hot 2 camera in a good lighting conditions looks good. and you can see some details in it.
however, in low lighting condition the hot 2 takes shots that lacks enough details and has a lot of noise. as we can see this same shot on different times of the day shows that the camera performs poorly in low light condition. gaming performance lately, mobile devices became a handheld gaming platform. not graphics intensive games like the ones pc and consoles. but, the mobile devices has its own games. the hot 2 performs good with most modern mobile games. such as angry birds 2 and ski safari 2
the device performs little slow with some games like limbo and need for speed no limits. but in general the hot 2 offers a good gaming exprience. the operating system infinix hot 2 is part of android one initiative and it runs android 5.1.1 lollipop. it runs stock android comes from google directly google is one responsible for the support of the device and updating it this makes the device getting updates fast to the latest versions of android before a lot of devices the operating system on the hot 2 is stock android like google nexus devices
this means that it's more faster and more responsive than the modified version of android such as samsung touchwiz version of android. the operating system on the hot 2 is simple. however, it lacks some apps such as a file manager and the gallery. and you could overcome this issue by downloading the missing apps from google play store. sliding explorer is a good file manager and focus is a good app for gallery. you can find the download links for this apps below the video in the description. the battery the battery is not the best you could find on a smartphone
it can last the day with you if your usage is normal or light usage. but, if you use the device for gaming and browsing the internet on 3g most of the time the battery won't last the whole day with you. here you can see 2 screenshots of the battery usage from 100% to 3% and that was a light usage. browsing the internet between wifi and 3g playing angry birds 2 for short amount of time and the rest of the time listening to music on earphones. the battery needs from 1:30hrs to 2hrs to charge from 0% to 100% using the charger that came with the device.
there is an led next to the front camera blinks red when the battery is low solid red when you connect the charger and solid green when the battery level reachs around 90% to indicate that the battery will be full soon. as we saw the hot 2 offers value for the money and it's very decent a mid range device. if we looked 3 years back at what kind of smartphone 1000 egp could get you you would have found only the likes of samsung galaxy mini and lg l3 and those devices were really slow and laggy because it had outdated and really cheap components running poorly with apps that were available back then even.
now the rules changed with manufactures like one plus and lenovo entering the smartphones market these manufactures offers really decent specs for affordable prices this makes having a modern smartphone that runs the modern apps smoothly without any lag or stutter became within everybody's budget. and now we can see google is doing the same thing through android one initiative. offering decent specs smartphones for affordable prices to provide a good user experience. i reccomand the 2gb of ram version not the 1gb 1gb of ram is very little for the modern android apps requirements. there is an issue with the battery i don't know if it's just my device or all the devices from infinix are like that
the battery is not well calibrated which means for examplethe battery could be at 25% and if you restart the device it will become 30% or 35% this is mostly a kernel related issue or some bug in the os hopefully it will be fixed by the next update for android marshmallow. another issue is chrome browser and as we know chrome consumes a lot of ram using chrome to surf some websites will cause the device to completely freeze and becomes unresponsive and you have to restart the device to recovery from this issue. as a temporary measure i'm using firefox browser instead of chrome and hopefully this chrome issue gets resolved soon with an update.
last thing i will talk about today the kind of service you get from infinix in egypt. either infinix egypt or jumia. very bad management the 1gb of ram of the hot 2 is not android one even instead it comes with a modified rom from infinix. and infinix egypt was asking the users to flash the android one rom manually this is unacceptable. this is an end user product you can't give a different product asking the users to flash another firmware to get the product they were paying for. then came the catastrophe when some people ordered the 2gb of ram version of the hot 2 and they got the 1gb of ram version instead and not even android one version and this happened to me personally. i ordered the 2gb of ram version and i got the 1gb instead
