hi this is vanessa joy here with breathe your passion on adoramatv and today i'm going to show you how to create golden hour when it's cloudy and crappy out. we're here with stazia, she's actually also a photographer and i'm gonna take her head shot. when it's cloudy out clients, at least mine, still expect that light airy warm golden hour feel but as
you know we don't always have that luxury. so what we're going to do is use off-camera flash in order to simulate the sun. so there are two ways that you can go about doing this, the first i'm going to show you involves two lights but you can do this with just one so first off to the left, we have the profoto b1, it has a half cto gel on
it. which just means i'm turning it orange. why? because the sun is orange. so i'm gelling that they're so it mimics the sun and i'm also putting it in a position, low and behind my subject just like if i did have that nice golden hour glow that's where i would position the sun as well. so really all we're doing with that profoto light there is
mimicking the sun. now i could start here and just photograph her but i'm going to want to fill her face as well and make sure the light is flattering there. there is two ways i can do this but first we're going to start off with using a softbox. so i have a second profoto b1 light here and it has a softbox on it has the 3x2 softbox, nice and close to her so we
get a really soft light. the way that i get the exposure first is i use my live view and i want to just get the exposure as if i was going to photograph her without all these lights. so i'm going to take a picture of what that looks like, i'm just going to pop my my transmitter off here so you can see exactly what i'm doing without the lights. so big cheese.
perfect so you'll see there on the screen what it looks like without any off camera flash and now i'm going to do is turn on my ttl. so one of the nice things about the profoto lights that i love is the ttl function which is just letting me use auto, really to get the roundabout power that i want coming out of my lights. so i'm not doing anything else
but putting on my transmitter and firing again. so looking here, one more test. perfect. so now you can see on the screen i just have light coming in. what i usually do at this point is i change from ttl to manual so that now i can control and tweak my lights how i want them to be. i could walk over to my lights to do
that or i can just do that on my transmitter here. so looking at that picture i know that i want the backlight my sun to be a little bit brighter. so that one's labeled be so i'm just going to come over here and i'm gonna bump up the energy. let's just try it at plus 3 and see what happens there and i think the light on her is good. i’m going to
move the light a little bit closer to her though. her the more soft it's gonna be. so nice and close their, little intimidating. i do not do this with my brides by the way, next. so let's take this picture one more time see how we're going. there we go gorgeous. oh and by the way, i've also set my white
balance to 56 kelvin, 5600 kelvin and that's because i want the light on her light, which is at 5600 kelvin. so i'm actually gonna go to 57 so it's ever so good. so you can see now behind her e’ve got a little bit more light. you know i'm gonna have to take a baby step to the left, yes. always mess up the right and left more seen if i can get a little bit more sun
flare in there, yeah perfect. that's what i'm looking for a little bit more so i'm actually going to bump up my looks more like that light flair that i closer. think this will be perfect. that's it, so that's that nice warm little sunshine glow right behind her, so i'm gonna pose you just a little bit, so
what you're gonna do is you can put your feet together, you can put your thumbs in your front pocket. perfect, you're gonna pretend i'm a mirror. so you just do what i do. you're going to bend your left leg, yep other way, other mirror. perfect i'm light it's more flattering that way. you're going uneven with them. perfect, you can turn your
that way, really pretty and then just turn your eyes up towards me. love it one too. so perfect. right here i actually have my adorama flashpoint 5in1 reflector. i love it that b1 in the back is the sun and if that'd b1 in the back is a sun some light into it. so we're gonna give that a try alright. so rob is going to
is the adorama 5in1 flashpoint reflector. my favourite i buy it multiple times over. what we're just attempting to do is pretend that is the sun in the back stazia's face. so you're going to basically to fall and come to her face. perfect. so just looking at me. awesome kind of like turn down that way.
until this point i've kind of been shooting just typical headshots but lets do some more creative ones in there. so love that. perfect. then take this hand and just kind of put it like up to your hair here. there you go. perfect. you can turn a little bit towards the reflector. that's really pretty, good just kind of smiling down
