today on brs tv's how to tuesday we are goingset up the reef link and ecosmart phone app hi i'm ryan host of brs tv where each weekwe explore new topics related to reefing this week we are going show you how to set up theecosmart live phone app for ios and talk a bit about what's in the works for the futureof the reeflink. the app has been cable of controlling your radion lights for a whilethrough your reeflink but more recently they added controllability for the vortech pumpsas well. first step is to set up your reeflink whichin most typical home networks is super easy. you will need an ecosmart live account socheck out ecosmartlive.com, click on the "need an account" link and fill out the form.
next plug your reeflink to your pc or macvia usb, make sure to not have the power cable plugged in at this point. then go to tiny.cc/reeflink to download theset up application. the set up process will offer you two options one via ethernet andone via wi-fi. in this case i am going to use wi-fi and enter the relevant information. at this point we are done with the reeflinkset up and you can disconnect the usb and power it up with the power cord. it shouldhave a success message and you are done. you can now log into ecosmart live with yournew account, hit the device manager and add items wirelessly. once it finds your new equipment,add the equipment to your desired tank.
from here you can now set up and make changesto your lights from basically device that has an internet browser like a pc, phone ortablet. doing this wirelessly from your phone is incredibly easy and way better than halinga pc around to connect directly. it is also really handy if you want to do something coolwith the lights on demand, like say you had company over and the lights are off but youwant to show off the tank. so controlling the tank via your phone isabout as convenient as it gets right so how do we make it even more convenient? an appfor your phone or tablet. download the app, enter your username andpassword and boom you are in. select your tank or hit the plus sign to create one.
to add a new radion led light hit the gearnext to the tank name and the plus sign in the lower right corner. it will search forecotech products near you and display them as new devices and devices already linkedto various tanks. in this case i want to add a new radion to a tank, so i select it andhit next. once the radion is connected you can changethe color channels by kelvin, or to can switch to rgb which has the ability to change toa whole bunch of different colors and ultimate control with the sliders. you also have access to all the presets from5k to 20k and a variety of set color settings. preview modes, schedules, and other settings.
what's new in the app is the vortech controlwhich makes it easy to change modes and flow patterns as well as initiate feed mode whichis handy. adding the pumps is as easy as opening a tank, hitting the plus button in the lowercorner waiting for it to find available modules. it likely won't find your pumps yet. so clickon missing devices and vortech which will walk you through the process. start by unpluggingevery single vortech in the house and click next now hold set and mode down at the same timewhile you plug in the vortech. the lights will go from red to flashing red and white.then hit next now hold the set button till the knob flashesgreen and blue. let go and it will begin updating
the firmware on the vortech to connect tothe reef link. it is a good idea to have the reef link pretty close to the vortech forthis process. once the process is done add the pumps to your tank and you are done. youcan now access and control the pump. if you own a radion already the reeflink willmake it a lot easy to program and show off your tank. if you own some vortech's it justgets better. the people at ecotech have notoriously tight lips on new products but they have hintedto us that the reeflink, ecosmart live and mobile apps are going to be the hub from whichall of their new products work. there are some things in the works there and i thinkthis is going to be something big. even better they just launched a promotionwhere if you buy a single radion led module
