hello youtube viewers! in this video i'm going to go over the installation of a new oil pressure switch on a 4.0l ford engine. a bad oil pressure switch can make your oil pressure gauge pop up and down, or show no oil pressure. sometimes showing no oil pressure, and then after your engine has warmed up bit, popping up to full oil pressure. try this procedure first if you have those symptoms. the replacement parts is bwd s4223
at o'reilly auto parts. as you can see mine cost $19.99. now, this little beauty is hidden pretty deep inside the engine compartment. the arrow points to the small opening that you have where you can reach down and get to it. the first thing you have to do, though, is reach down and loosen some wire clamps. you actually have to bend that clamp open a bit and then grab the wire bundle, lift it out of wire clamp, and maneuver it counterclockwise until it's on
the right-hand side of the clamp. now, luckily, you can get to the sensor from inside the wheel well. so, turn your wheel all the way to the left, grab yourself a cinder block, and cozy on up to that wheel. once you sit down, you can reach through the wheel well and unplug the sensor. just push down on the retaining clip and pull off the wiring harness. now with the wiring harness removed, you can reach and with your 13/16th inch spark plug socket
and remove the sensor. now, believe it or not, the hardest part is done. from here, all you do is reverse the order of what you've already done, remembering to use your new sensor. so, you screw in the sensor, replace the wiring harness, move the wire bundle back into its clamp, pick up your tools and cinder block, and bid adieu to your front left tire. now, all things and done, you should have
a fully functional oil pressure gauge, and in the process you may have spilled (at most) a teaspoon to a tablespoon of engine oil. so, i hope you enjoyed the video, and good luck!
