hi i'm josh from espares. and in this video at i'm going to beaddressing drain and pump problems in your washing machine. the most common drain problem that washing machinesdevelop is that they simply won't drain at all. and this is usually dueto a foreign object in the wash load that has found itsway through the machine and got stuck in the sump hose and blocked the pump. to give you abetter idea of what's going on i'm just going to put the machine

down onto its side so we can have a lookinside. this is the under side of the machine here's thepump assembly and this is the sumphose. now before the object has had a chance to get intothe pump most machines and made with a filter or trap. and you can't get to this byjust undoing the cover on the front to themachine and unscrewing the filter.

and that's designed to catch whateverobject has made its way through the wash load andbefore it gets to the pump. it may be the case on your machinethe filter is similar to this one where the front of it is attached to the body. and that meansthat if you do get an object caught in there you can't actually unscrew thefilter because it catches on the sides. now if that's the case you need to getaccess to

the pump assembly or the sump hose and remove either one of them inorder to remove the object from the filter. if the machine is draining slowly it could be due to a partialblockage and that could be from debris or a small item of clothing. obviouslythe first place you need to check is the filter and one seat at the filteris clear just have a feel along the sump hose for anything that might be blocking it.and obviously if you do find something

you need to disconnect the sump hose andremove the blockage. it could also bedraining slowly because the pump has burnt out or what tends to happen sometimesis this something gets wrapped around the pump impeller suchas a piece of plastic or an elastic band. in which case youneed to remove that before putting the pump backin. now this machine is equipped with twopumps. a recirculation pump, and a drainage pump.so if you getting strange noises during

the wash cycle it's more likely to be a problem with therecirculation pump. if the noise is happening duringthe drainage, that could be an issue with the drainage pump. if you've checked all of these areasfor blockages and he still can't find anything and if your machine is connected to aspigot underneath the kitchen sink. then it could be that the sink itself isblocked with something like fat. to check this just disconnect the

drain hose from the spigots and try emptying the machine into a bucket. if the water doesn't come out ofthe hose then obviously you need to clear your kitchen sink and before reconnecting the drain hose. now a questionwe often get asked is how to drain a machine if it's stoppedwhile it's full of water?. there are a few things you can try ifyou go to the cover on the front of the filter and just popthat open. many machines contain a small drainage hose which can then be used toempty the water into

a shallow bowl or bucket. another thing you can try is to lean the machine backwards so that the waterlevel inside is lower than the door seal and then justopen the door and ladle the water out. orsomething else to try is to take the drainage hose and lower it to the floor so it's lowerthan the water level in the drum and that should enable the water to justrun out. spares for washing machines and otherappliances
